Students completing this course will gain the skills and knowledge required to administer restricted analgesics to provide pain management as part of a medically supervised first responder organisation.
It includes identifying the need for analgesia; accessing, preparing and administering restricted pain relief such as analgesics according to medically endorsed protocols; performing casualty handovers and completing analgesic use requirements.
The course is applicable for personnel from emergency services, volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.

This course is offered as a face-to-face course. Pre-course learning is required.
For the standard course – the face to face minimum duration is 4 hours
For the express course – the face to face minimum duration is 60 minutes*

Learners must hold a current HLATID011 Provide first aid statement of attainment to attend this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.
Learners undertaking the express course must have previously completed the PUAEME008 – Provide pain management (or its equivalent). Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment on the day of their face-to-face course.
Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.
Assessment activities will include completion of a first aid incident report form and medication register. In addition, learners will be required to participate in practical scenarios including effective use of pain management and handover to paramedics.
There is no renewal recommendation set by industry for this course.
