About this course

Students completing this course will gain the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, as well as recognise hazardous manual tasks and perform them safely.

This course applies to individuals who may be required to respond to a range of situations in community and workplace settings, delivering effective first aid care while ensuring safe manual handling practices.

  • HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support

Course Details

Course delivery

This course is offered as a face-to-face course. Pre-course learning is required.

Course duration​

  • Standard: the face to face minimum duration is 12 hours.
  • Express: The face to face minimum duration is 3 hours.

Pre-requisites​

Learners will require English Language, Literacy, numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills.

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course.

Entry requirements​

All students must be able to demonstrate at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. In addition to this, you must have the ability to manually manoeuvre a person into the recovery position.

Training requirements​

Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.

Assessment requirements​

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including CPR, and First Aid techniques. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment and will include preparing for and completing a manual task and the completion of survey forms and risk assessment forms.

Course renewal requirements​

The HLTAID011 statement of attainment is valid for 3 years*. *Please note that the CPR component of the training is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually. There is no renewal recommendation set by industry for HLTWHS005.
