About this course

Students completing this course will gain the skills and knowledge to perform basic water rescues in indoor or outdoor aquatic venues.
The unit applies to all workers who may be required to perform basic water rescues in a range of situations, including swimming pools.

Work is performed according to accepted best practice principles of aquatic rescues, relevant legislation and organisational policies.

Our Standard Face-to-Face Course provide comprehensive training, combining online pre-course learning (where applicable) with in-person training, allowing students sufficient time to develop the knowledge and practical skills required. This delivery is ideal for first-time participants who have not previously completed the course. Throughout the training, students receive thorough instruction, demonstration and hands-on practice before undertaking their practical assessments, ensuring they feel prepared and confident.

The Standard Course is also recommended for students who would benefit from additional time to practise their skills before assessment.

Course Details

Course delivery

This course is offered as a face-to-face course. Pre-course learning is required.

Course duration​

  • Standard: 2 hours pre-course learning + 5 hours completed face-to-face
  • Express: 2 hours pre-course learning + 2 hours completed face-to-face
  • Fully face to face: 10 hours in total

Pre-requisites​

Learners will require English Language, Literacy, numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills.

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course.

Training requirements​

Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.

Assessment requirements​

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including performing non swimming and swimming rescues. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.

Course renewal requirements​

The Statement of Attainment is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually.
